For the professional or semi-professional woodturner who requires a large capacity lathe within the restraints of a budget, the Fox F46-719 14 1/2” professional lathe more than fits the bill, opening up an immensely satisfying vista of woodturning opportunity. Featuring copious quantities of cast iron down to even the legstand, it weighs a substantial 134kg -ensuring on that so necessary stability required for professional turning. A gutsy 1hp motor continues the theme, providing powerful performance through a range of 12 turning speeds from 450 to 2250rpm, which are steplessly adjusted via a Poly-V drive system. The motor has been set back out of the way of the turning zone to avoid ingress of dust and chippings into it, ensuring on an increased service life. Distance between turning centres is 1123mm (44 1/4”), with a bowl turning capacity of 370mm (14 1/2”). All adjustments to the set-up are made via userfriendly quick action Bristol levers and a smooth running handwheel. Precision finishing of the iron castings serves to further enhance this machine. In line with Fox’s strict policy of compatibility, industry standard fittings have been utilised to allow for integration with other turning systems: a 1” x 8tpi main drive spindle and MT2 head and tail stock tapers. The hollow tail stock features a 10mm through hole, facilitating long hole boring necessary for lamp production. Supplied as standard with cast iron legstand, a four-spur centre, a revolving centre and a multi-positional cast tool rest.
